I am a speech-language pathologist living with terminal cancer in Brandon, Manitoba.
In 2017, I was in the operating room undergoing an awake craniotomy and hoping that against all odds, the pathology results would come back different than what was diagnosed. You know that old saying, “Be careful what you wish for?” Well, I should have listened to it because instead of coming back better, the pathology results came back significantly worse: anaplastic astrocytoma. Some days, I am so incredibly angry. Others, I am in the depths of despair. Fortunately, most days I can choose to be happy and live the best life I can.
